For too long, women have been underrepresented in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). But fortunately, the situation is changing, as demonstrated by Elza Bontempi, Full Professor of Chemical Foundations of Technology at the University of Brescia. Recognized by Stanford University as one of the top 2% most influential researchers in the world, Bontempi is also part of the “Unstoppable Women”, a group of Italian women driving change, each in their respective professional fields.
The project was born almost by chance after the publication of an article by StartupItalia.it, which listed 150 women to follow in innovation, digital fields, and startups. This sparked the creation of a women-only Facebook group, later officially renamed Unstoppable Women. Today, the community counts about 2,000 managers, activists, and researchers committed to driving change across various sectors and promoting leadership.
Over time, the list has grown to highlight the stories of athletes, artists, scientists, and professionals who stand out for their dedication and excellence in their work. Among the 2024 Unstoppable Women are Olympic athlete Eleonora Anna Giorgi, European record holder in the 50 km race walk; Youtuber Fjona Cakalli; physicist, writer, and science communicator Gabriella Greison; and film director and screenwriter Valentina Bertani.
