On June 23, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center opens its doors to the world. A four-day event under the title Metamorphosis organized to celebrate the opening will invite the public to discover this unique project where the prodigies of technology and scientific engineering are put to the service of art and culture.
Salini Impregilo, which built the Centre as head of an international joint-venture with Greek partner Terna, is celebrating this event with a special edition that speaks of the secrets of this ambitious and visionary project, which began with Renzo Piano sketching the first lines of an idea for the heads of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation who would later finance the €596 million project.
The project, which aims to become an international hub for art and culture, is also a symbol of Italian ingenuity and engineering know-how inherited from great figures of its past and brought together with the most advanced technologies.
The result is an avant-garde Cultural Centre in everything including the sustainable principles that has allowed the SNFCC to obtain a “Platinum” certificate, the highest rating from the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) program, one of the most prestigious in the world.
Salini Impregilo took on the challenge in 2012 and managed to complete it in three years to offer the world a place where technological innovation allows art and culture to express themselves to the maximum.
