The Brenner Base Tunnel brings Europe closer
The Brenner Base Tunnel, with its 64 km, will become the world’s longest underground railway link, promoting fast, safe and sustainable mobility between Munich and Verona, the strategic axis of the European Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
The tunnel, in whose construction Webuild participates with various lots, some of these already completed, will have a very low gradient (4-7%) allowing trains to reach 200 km/h. The work is a sample of innovative techniques such as freezing in excavations under the Isarco River, the construction of parallel exploratory tunnels, water-cement mixtures with accelerated consolidating products, the protection of mountains and valleys from construction debris, and the 1,300 points of water monitoring.
