M4 Milan, Italy’s fashion capital inaugurates first six stations of the new metro line

The metro line M4 of Milan has come into service with the opening of its first six stops: from the Linate city airport to the Dateo Station. By 2023, service will extend to the San Babila in the historic centre, then on to San Cristoforo at the other end of the line.

The fashion capital of Italy chose the best solution in term of sustainable mobility to connect Linate with centre in just 15 minutes.

Built by Webuild, the M4 of Milan is completely underground and fully automated trains. It consists of two parallel single-track tunnels – one for each direction – for a length of 15 kilometres. There are 21 stations, and 30 other structures. The new metro line of Milan will serve 24,000 passengers every hour in each direction, or 86 million a year. It will allow for a reduction in traffic by 180,000 vehicles per day, contributing to an annual reduction of 75,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
